Carly Rae Jepsen – ‘This Kiss’

12 Sep

As Canadian singer, Carly Rae Jepsen, prepares for the release of her second studio album, ‘Kiss‘, the world is still trying to recover from the trauma that was, ‘Call Me Maybe‘. Her Owl City collaboration has been added to the album after an official release a couple of weeks ago, but for those who are still craving something sweet, a third single has been dropped. Although ‘This Kiss‘ will probably see an official release in the UK after the album – if it gets one at all  – it is still worth bringing up.

Co-written and produced by LMFAO’s Redfoo, there is a distinct disco vibe that will see Jepsen dance her way up the charts. The keyboard synths are wonderfully old school as they find inspiration from the effervescent romances of the 80s, taking disco and pop back to its most lively and colourful moments. Maintaining a youthful flare and the ‘hopeless-romantic’ image seen in ‘Call Me Maybe‘, Jepsen has managed to produce another sickly-sweet single that will get under the skin. Lyrically, ‘This Kiss‘ is desperate and filled with heart-ache as Jepsen falls for someone she can’t be with: “This kiss is something I can’t risk/Your heart is unreliable”. Young girls are bound to fall in love with the all too familiar frustration.

This Kiss‘ won’t make your teeth rot, but it is just as irresistible as ‘Call Me Maybe‘. Another top single that will only push Jepsen up as a leading pop-princess; you will either love it or hate it whilst loving it in secret. Check it out below!
