Ne-Yo – ‘Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)’

4 Sep

Since his début back in 2006, Ne-Yo has danced up and down the charts with more successes than failures whilst working with some of the industry’s leading artists; including Rihanna and 50 Cent – there is even a Disney track under his belt.  With no signs of slowing down, the smooth R&B singer/songwriter will be releasing his fifth album, ‘R.E.D.‘ later this year that promises to be just as seductive as  previous records. The second track cut from album follows up on this promise, as Ne-Yo adopts a soulful ballad infused with an alluring soundscape.

Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself’)’ is currently sitting at the top of the live iTunes single’s charts as I write this, pushing comeback singles by P!nk and The Script aside. Upbeat and romantic, the single indeed conforms to Ne-Yo’s usual seductive characteristics built-up by the synthpop soundscape. A lovely piano accompanies his soft vocals whilst an infectious beat and various sparkling synths produce the explosive chorus designed for the dance-floor. Musically, it is a floor-filler that is right at home in the mainstream charts. The lyrics, however, provide the depth, lifting it above the typical dance tracks found in the charts, as Ne-Yo fights for love. They are touching and heart-felt; “I can see the pain behind your eyes/Its been there for a while./I just wanna be the one/ To remind you what it is to smile”. Its enough to make any young girl and hopeless romantic go weak at the knees. But, unfortunately, the use of “until” hints that Ne-Yo has no intention of sticking around once the girls finds self-confidence, which does burst the bubble. However, it is easily brushed under the rug and forgotten as the huge synth-dominated chorus and dreamy verses are enchanting enough.

After this delightful single, it is hard to imagine there’s a girl who would say no to letting Ne-Yo love them, but if you need more convincing, you may want to check out the hot music video below.
